Yoga Nidra

Yoga Nidra, is a guided meditation practice that induces a state between waking and sleeping. It is a systematic method of deep relaxation in which the body rests while the mind remains aware. Unlike ordinary sleep, Yoga Nidra takes students into a conscious state of profound rest, where both the sympathetic (stress-related) and parasympathetic (relaxation-related) nervous systems can rebalance.

Key Points for Students

  • Not actual sleep: Although called “yogic sleep,” students remain awake but deeply relaxed.
  • Structure: Typically guided through stages such as body scan, breath awareness, setting an intention, visualization, and relaxation.
  • Benefits: Reduces stress and anxiety, improves concentration, supports emotional regulation, enhances creativity, and helps with sleep issues.
  • Accessibility: Can be practiced lying down in savasana making it inclusive for people of all physical abilities.
